For release on August 07, 2026

Anniversary event honors legacy of service while looking ahead to continued growth and innovation

INDIANAPOLIS (August 7, 2026) — Community Hospital East and Community Health Network are celebrating 70 years of service, innovation and commitment to improving the health of Central Indiana communities.

The milestone recognizes the opening of Community Hospital East in 1956 and the beginning of what would become Community Health Network — one of Indiana's leading health systems. Leaders, physicians, caregivers, retirees, volunteers and community members gathered today to reflect on the organization's history while looking ahead to the future of healthcare delivery across the region.

"For seventy years, Community Hospital East has been more than a hospital. It has been a trusted partner in the lives of patients and families throughout Central Indiana," said Dr. Patrick McGill, DHA, MBA, president and CEO of Community Health Network. "The legacy built by generations of physicians, nurses, caregivers, volunteers and community supporters continues to guide us as we expand access to care and prepare for the next chapter in Community's history."

From its beginnings as a single community hospital serving Indianapolis' east side, Community Health Network has grown into a comprehensive healthcare system offering advanced care across a broad network of hospitals, physician practices, urgent care centers and specialty services.

Throughout the anniversary celebration, speakers reflected on Community Hospital East's unique culture, its longstanding relationships with patients and families, and its role in shaping the values and vision that continue to guide Community Health Network today.

"While healthcare has evolved dramatically over the past seven decades, our commitment to compassionate, patient-centered care has remained constant," said Paige Dooley, chief nursing executive at Community Hospital East. "The heart of East has always been its people — the caregivers, physicians, volunteers and staff members who make a difference in the lives of patients every day."

Community leaders also highlighted the organization's future, including continued investments in healthcare access across Central Indiana and the planned opening of a new Community hospital in Westfield in 2027.

"East's story is deeply connected to Community Health Network's story," said Dr. Robin Ledyard, chief medical officer for Community Health Network and former president of Community Hospital East. "The vision that began here seventy years ago has grown to serve communities across the region while remaining rooted in the values of compassion, excellence and service."

The anniversary celebration honored former and current caregivers, physicians, volunteers, Auxiliary members, donors, board members, and community partners whose contributions have helped shape Community's success over the past seven decades.

"As we celebrate this milestone, we are grateful to everyone who helped build this organization and to the patients who have trusted us with their care," McGill said. "Their legacy inspires us to continue innovating, growing and serving our communities for generations to come."
