New tool delivers secure, personalized answers and guidance directly within patients’ medical records
INDIANAPOLIS, IN (July 28, 2026) — Community Health Network today announced the launch of Emmie, a new artificial intelligence (AI) assistant now available in MyChart, providing patients with a secure, conversational way to better understand their health information and take next steps in their care.
Integrated directly into MyChart, Emmie allows patients to ask questions about their health records and receive immediate, personalized responses based on information already available in their chart. The tool is designed to simplify how patients interpret medical information, manage appointments and navigate their care journey.
“At Community Health Network, we’re always looking for ways to make healthcare simpler, more accessible and more personal,” said Michael Sura, Vice President Business Solutions for Community Health Network. “With Emmie, patients can get clear answers about their health and take next steps with confidence right from MyChart. It’s another way we’re using technology to remove barriers and help patients stay connected to their care.”
Making health information easier to understand and act on
Patients can interact with Emmie using natural, conversational questions such as:
- “What did my doctor say about my blood pressure at my last visit?”
- “What does this test result mean?”
- “How do I schedule my annual physical?”
Emmie provides clear, easy-to-understand answers and can guide patients to act, such as scheduling appointments or reviewing follow-up instructions.
The assistant draws directly from the patient’s medical record, including visit notes, test results and prior communications, to provide responses tailored to the individual.
Built for healthcare: secure, private and designed to support — not replace — care teams
Emmie was developed specifically for use in healthcare environments, with privacy and security at its core. The assistant only accesses information that is already visible to the patient within MyChart and follows all existing confidentiality protections and account permissions.
The tool is designed to support — not replace — patients’ relationships with their care teams. When appropriate, Emmie may guide patients to schedule an appointment or contact a provider for further discussion.
Improving access, convenience and responsiveness
By embedding AI directly into MyChart, Emmie enhances the digital front door for patients—providing:
- 24/7 access to answers about health information
- Plain-language explanations of complex medical terms and results
- Guided next steps, such as scheduling or follow-up care
- Reduced wait times for common questions traditionally handled via phone or message
Epic, the developer of Emmie and Community Health Network’s electronic health record partner, designed the assistant to reduce friction in the patient experience while improving engagement and operational efficiency.
A continued partnership with Epic
Emmie was developed by Epic, the creator of MyChart and a longstanding technology partner of Community Health Network.
“Community Health Network has been a terrific, long-standing partner of our MyChart team,” said Trevor Berceau, director of patient experience at Epic. “Emmie will fundamentally improve patients’ MyChart experiences, and we're excited to see the positive impact that it will have. Congratulations to everyone at Community.”
Community has worked with Epic for more than a decade to continuously enhance its digital capabilities and improve how patients access and manage their care.
Availability
Emmie is now available to eligible Community patients within MyChart. Patients can access the assistant by logging into their MyChart account on desktop or mobile.
