Community Health Network President Bryan Mills Announces Retirement After Four Decades of Service

For release on July 01, 2025

INDIANAPOLIS (July 1, 2025) — Bryan Mills, president and chief executive officer of Community Health Network, announced today that he will retire at the end of 2025, concluding a 40-year career with the organization.

Bryan Mills, Community Health Network president and CEOMills began his career with Community in 1985 as a member of the leadership team that opened Community Hospital North. He later served as CEO of Visionary Enterprises Inc. (VEI), a for-profit affiliate of Community, from 1992 to 2009. On May 1, 2009, he was appointed president and CEO of Community Health Network.

His announcement comes at a time of reflection and progress for the organization, following the 40th anniversary of Community North and the recent opening of a new campus in Westfield, where a new hospital is under development.

“With both of these amazing milestones in mind, and with the end of my contract term approaching later this year, I feel  this is the right time to prepare to pass the baton to Community’s next leader,” Mills said.

When Mills began his journey with Community, it was a single hospital. As CEO, he played a pivotal role in guiding its evolution into a comprehensive health system—now encompassing five acute-care hospitals (with a sixth on the way), a cardiovascular hospital, a recovery center, three rehabilitation hospitals, and soon, freestanding behavioral health hospitals. Under his leadership, the network also expanded to include numerous ambulatory practices, surgery centers, virtual care services, and advanced cancer care through a partnership with MD Anderson Cancer Center.

Despite the rapid growth, Mills emphasized that the organization’s mission and culture have remained constant.

“We’ve never changed our name, Community, because it reflects our unchanging mission to enhance health and well-being across our communities,” he said. “Our dedication and commitment have always been to patients, our communities and our caregivers. I’ve had the privilege of walking alongside so many wonderful patients, caregivers and colleagues for four decades and it has been the greatest honor of my life,’ said Mills.

Rafael A. Sanchez, president of the Community Health Network Board of Trustees, praised Mills’ leadership and legacy.

“Bryan’s vision, integrity and unwavering commitment to our mission have shaped Community into one of the most respected health systems in the region,” Sanchez said. “His leadership has touched countless lives, and we are deeply grateful for his decades of service. The board is committed to finding a successor who will build on this strong foundation and lead us into the future.”

A search is already underway for Mills' successor. He will remain in his current role until the end of the year and has committed to helping in the transition of a new leader.
