(INDIANAPOLIS) June 17, 2025 – Community Health Network announces the opening of a brand-new 12-bed Surgical Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Community Hospital South, a transformative expansion designed to serve the growing needs of our community. Constructed within a repurposed former office space and outfitted with state-of-the-art safety features, the new unit doubles the hospital’s previous ICU capacity and elevates the standard of postoperative and critical care.
The new unit is specifically designed to support a wide range of patients—including those recovering from general surgery, neurological, vascular, and oncology procedures. Each ICU room is equipped with an advanced ceiling lift system, ensuring a higher level of safety by easing patient transfers and reducing the physical demands placed on caregivers. The improved design fosters a more efficient workflow, allowing clinical teams to respond swiftly in critical situations while guaranteeing optimal patient comfort throughout their recovery.
“Given the growing demand for critical care services in our area, this expansion is both timely and necessary,” said Anita Capps, Community Hospital South Administrator. “Our new Surgical ICU embodies our commitment to delivering cutting-edge, patient-focused care. By integrating advanced technology and a thoughtfully designed environment, we can now provide a higher standard of care for our patients during their most vulnerable moments.”
