Community Health Network First in Indiana to Utilize New Valve Replacement Technology

For release on July 25, 2025

INDIANAPOLIS (July 25, 2025) – Community Health Network has completed the first commercial transcatheter tricuspid valve replacement (TTVR) in Indiana. Doctors used the new EVOQUE™ Tricuspid Valve Replacement System, which the U.S. Food and Drug Administration approved in 2024. This procedure fixes a leaking tricuspid valve without opening the chest.

Tricuspid regurgitation (TR) happens when the valve between the right atrium and right ventricle of the heart leaks blood backward. Traditional treatment requires open-heart surgery.

Transcatheter tricuspid valve replacement (TTVR) uses a thin tube called a catheter to deliver and implant a new valve through a vein in the leg. This approach is much less invasive than open-heart surgery.

The team at Community Heart and Vascular Hospital in Indianapolis completed the EVOQUE implant in under one hour. Compared to open-heart surgery, patients typically experience:

  • A hospital stay of about 2 days, instead of around 5 days
  • A return to normal activities in 2–4 weeks, instead of 8–12 weeks
  • 30% fewer patients readmitted to the hospital within 30 days
  • 80% of patients moving from severe symptoms to mild or none within one month

EVOQUE is the first and only FDA-approved device for replacing the tricuspid valve without open-heart surgery.

“This technology gives us an important new option for patients with leaking tricuspid valves,” said Dr. Sandeep Dube, Structural Heart Medical Director. “By using a catheter instead of open-heart surgery, we help people recover faster, spend less time in the hospital, and enjoy better quality of life.”
