An observation experience allows you to observe a healthcare worker in the work setting. Experiences may be for up to 20 hours and observers may not participate in any "hands on" experiences. Under special circumstances the experience may be longer, at the discretion of the department. The participant is always under the direct supervision of a Community Health Network caregiver.
Due to the extreme vulnerability of our patients in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), no requests for observation can be granted.
Requirements
- All participants must show evidence of proof of immunization or titer for measles, mumps, rubella (MMR), varicella (chickenpox), negative TB, hepatitis B, and flu shot for current flu season.
- The minimum age is 16 and a junior in high school. Any person under the age of 18 must have parental permission.
- Participant must comply with the dress code.
- Application and any additional paperwork must be received no later than one week prior to requested date of experience.
Application Process
We have updated our observation application process and you may now apply online for nursing observation experiences.
- In the online form, choose "Nursing/Nursing Education" as the observation area, and then choose the specific area of nursing you are interested in.
- If participant is under the age of 18, a parental signature is also needed in the online form.
- Obtain all necessary immunization documentation and attach with online application.
- Submit online application no later than one week prior to experience.
- We will contact you via e-mail for any questions. Please check your e-mail frequently to facilitate the process.
- Prior to your experience read critical information for observation experience (dress code, tips, hand washing).
- For additional questions about nursing observations, please call 317-355-5259.
