INDIANAPOLIS (March 27, 2026)—Community Health Network is announcing a major milestone in cardiovascular care: the first successful implant of the AMDS™ Hybrid Prosthesis in the state of Indiana. The procedure was completed by Dr. Vince Nardy and Dr. Yogesh Patel, two experienced cardiothoracic surgeons dedicated to advancing life‑saving treatment options for patients.
The AMDS Hybrid Prosthesis is the first device of its kind in the world designed to treat acute DeBakey Type I aortic dissections with malperfusion, a rare but life‑threatening medical emergency. This new technology has the potential to improve outcomes for patients facing one of the most critical forms of aortic disease.
An acute DeBakey Type I aortic dissection occurs when a tear develops in the body’s main artery, causing blood flow to split the layers of the aorta. This can disrupt circulation to vital organs and can be fatal without immediate intervention.
The AMDS Hybrid Prosthesis is designed to help:
Reduce major adverse events following surgery
Resolution of malperfusion specific to organs affected by the dissection
Promote positive aortic remodeling
Effectively reduces distal anastomotic new entry tears following surgery
These benefits represent an important advancement in how acute DeBakey Type I aortic dissections are treated, offering new hope for patients who previously faced limited options.
Community Health Network established its cardiovascular and surgical teams as leaders in adopting new technologies that improve patient outcomes. By performing the state’s first AMDS implant, Community continues to bring cutting‑edge care directly to Indiana patients.
“Dr. Nardy and Dr. Patel’s dedication to pursuing innovative treatments is helping us reshape what is possible for patients facing life‑threatening aortic conditions,” said Dr. Thomas Schleeter, cardiovascular product line physician executive. “This milestone reflects our commitment to delivering advanced, high‑quality care close to home.”
