(INDIANAPOLIS) June 12, 2025 – Community Hospital North proudly celebrates its 40th anniversary today, marking four decades of exceptional healthcare service, innovation, and community commitment. Since opening its doors on June 12, 1985, with a 100-bed acute care capacity, the hospital has grown into a premier healthcare campus in Central Indiana.
Community Hospital North has been a beacon of progress from its start, opening a 125-bed Behavioral Care Pavilion in addition to the acute care hospital at 7250 Clearvista Drive. Over the years, it has expanded its services and facilities to meet the changing needs of patients and families.
Key milestones over four decades include:
- 1994–1999: Major expansions included new labor and delivery suites, a 24-bed ICU/PCU, advanced imaging technologies, and the opening of a 15-bed Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), which has since grown to 48 beds.
- 2000–2007: The emergency department more than doubled in size. The Indiana Heart Hospital—then the world’s first all-digital hospital—opened in 2003. By 2007, the hospital boasted the largest maternity unit in the country and a new 42-bed private NICU.
- 2013–2017: The Community Rehabilitation Hospital opened, followed by the Community Cancer Center North and the Women’s Center. The Connector Bridge and Alderson Family Bridge of Life physically and symbolically united care across the campus.
- 2020–2025: With nearly 350 beds, over 2,500 caregivers, and 1,000 medical providers, Community Hospital North continues to lead in patient care. Earlier this year, the hospital celebrated the 10th year in a row of delivering the most babies in Indiana.
“Community Hospital North has always been more than a hospital—it’s a place where lives begin, heal and thrive,” said Jennifer Hindman, Community Hospital North Administrator. “As we celebrate 40 years, we honor our caregivers, patients and the community that has trusted us with their care.”
As part of Community Health Network, Community Hospital North remains committed to delivering innovative, compassionate care and looks forward to continuing its legacy of excellence for decades to come.
