Groundbreaking celebration officially kicks off construction of new site
WESTFIELD, IN (Dec. 9, 2024) – Community Health Network broke ground today on a new state-of-the-art health and wellness campus in Westfield, a significant step in expanding access to comprehensive healthcare for one of Indiana’s fastest-growing communities.
State, local and community leaders were invited to attend the event which took place under a tent on the grounds of the future healthcare facility. Among the dozens who attended was Indiana Representative Brad Barrett (R-Richmond), who chairs several key health committees.
The 425,000-square-foot campus, located near 196th Street and U.S. 31, will feature an ambulatory surgery center, a medical office building, an emergency department, and a six-story inpatient tower. Designed to provide a broad spectrum of services, the facility will focus on women’s health, integrative medicine, orthopedics, primary care, behavioral health, and specialty care.
“This campus is all about enhancing access to high-quality, convenient care for Westfield residents and surrounding areas,” said Jason Fahrlander, Chief Operating Officer of Community Health Network. “It demonstrates our commitment to meeting the evolving needs of this community with comprehensive services delivered close to home.”
Although the groundbreaking marks a celebratory start to the project, work is already underway to renovate two existing buildings at 19800 and 19900 East Street, which will house outpatient imaging, cardiovascular care, and multiple clinical specialties. A 100-bed inpatient tower will provide advanced hospital services, including labor and delivery with family-centered Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) rooms.
Construction will be completed in phases, with the medical office building scheduled to open in early-2025, followed by the surgery center and hospital facilities in 2026. The $335 million project incorporates sustainability goals, with renovations of existing structures saving over $50 million compared to building entirely new facilities.
