New innovative technology offers new treatment option for resistant hypertension
Indianapolis (June 17, 2024)—Community Health Network now has a new option of treatment offering hope to patients with resistant hypertension or high blood pressure.
This week, Dr. Nitesh Gadeela, Community Hospital South cardiologist, performed the Network’s first procedure using Recor’s Paradise Ultrasound Renal Denervation system to successfully treat a patient. The innovative system received U.S. Food and Drug Administration approval in November as the first-of-its kind technology designed to lower blood pressure. It does this by eliminating overactive nerves that supply the renal artery contributing to high blood pressure.
High blood pressure can put people at risk for heart disease and stroke, the leading causes of death in the United States. According to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), in 2021, high blood pressure was a primary or contributing cause of more than 691,000 deaths in the U.S. According to the American Heart Association, nearly 20 percent of the patients treated for high blood pressure remain uncontrolled despite treatment through medication and lifestyle changes.
The Paradise Ultrasound Renal Denervation system provides a new option for those coping with resistant high blood pressure. “Renal denervation represents a novel and important adjunct to lifestyle modification and antihypertensive medications for resistant hypertension,” said Dr. Gadeela. “I’m very excited to be able to offer this therapy to our patients.”
A second procedure utilizing this latest technology was performed this week at Community Heart and Vascular Hospital by Community cardiologist, Dr. Ishti Ali. “This innovative procedure represents a significant advancement in our ability to manage high blood pressure,” said Dr. Ali. “It offers new hope and improved outcomes for our patients.”
