Community hospitals receive IBCLC Care Award
Indianapolis – Community Health Network hospitals are again being recognized for their commitment to the communities they serve through the education, support, and promotion of breastfeeding to help babies grow healthy and strong.
Community Hospital North, Community Hospital South, and Community Hospital East in Indianapolis plus Community Howard Regional Health in Kokomo have all received the International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) Care award for providing breastfeeding experts as part of their care for mothers and newborns.
International Board Certified Lactation Consultants support mothers with breastfeeding challenges. This includes helping families in unique situations such as breastfeeding more than one baby or nursing a sick or premature infant. They offer advice and support to mothers who are returning to work or school. They also help train nursing staff in hospitals to manage basic breastfeeding care.
“We know that breastfeeding is the best gift you can give to your baby”, said Amy Wire, Vice President of Community’s Women and Children’s Product Line. “It’s the best source of nutrition for babies. Providing a team of lactation consultants is part of our commitment to putting ‘patients first’. Their dedicated effort gives mothers the support and encouragement they need to create a successful breastfeeding pattern with their newborn.”
