Community Howard Regional Health and YMCA of Kokomo announced a partnership today to offer free athletic training services to YMCA members.
Through the partnership, Community Howard has placed a Certified Athletic Trainer in the YMCA in downtown Kokomo as a service to YMCA members. The athletic trainer will be available to offer consults for injuries and mobility concerns as well as education around the prevention of injuries, such as demonstrations on proper warm up and stretching, instruction on proper exercise technique and nutrition guidance.
“We are thrilled to bring this service to the diverse community served by the YMCA,” said Jennifer Hindman, Hospital Administrator for Community Howard Regional Health. “Working together, our goal is to improve the health and overall wellbeing of the community by providing immediate access to education and preventative sports medicine services.”
The athletic training services will be offered in the privacy of the second-floor MultiGen Room during set hours Monday to Friday. The service will be available to all members. Appointments are offered on a walk-in basis. Appointments can also be requested in advance by filling out the form at eCommunity.com/KokomoYMCA.
“Having on-site experts from Community Howard is a huge benefit for our members,” said Trish Severns, CEO of the YMCA of Kokomo. “We’re thrilled to have this partnership that is focused on a whole-health approach that includes not only consults for existing injuries, but also preventative care and nutritional education. With Community Howard in the building and accessible for free to our members, you see a continuity of care emerge that is so beneficial to this community.”
“Community’s athletic trainers work with student athletes in many of our local schools and we’re pleased to now extend that expertise to the broader community,” said Brett Patterson, Director of Sports Medicine Services for Community Health Network. “We know that injuries can happen during exercise, especially without proper technique. We want to make sure YMCA members remain healthy and active and that they have a resource to access if they have any lingering pain or an injury occurs.”
