Lab Summaries - Starting January 2025
Have you ever received lab results via MyChart and have a hard time understanding them? The new lab summaries feature will provide easy-to-understand lab results. *This feature will be gradually rolled out to patients by practice. The first group of practices includes:
- Diabetes and Internal Medicine Care - 56th St.
- Family Medicine Care - County Line
- Family Medicine Care - Fishers
- Family Medicine Care - Greenfield
- Family Medicine Care - Hillsdale
Q: What is this new experience and how does it work?
A: Family and internal medicine physicians/advanced practice providers will be sending you an auto-generated summary in the Narrative section of select lab results, accessible via your MyChart account. This summary will cover the following lab panels: CBC, CMP, TSH, TSH w/ Reflex to FT4, HbA1C, Lipids w/ Reflex to DLDL, Hepatitis C Antibody w/ Reflex to DNA, Vitamin D
Q: Do these changes apply to me?
A: Yes, if one of your physicians/advanced practice providers is an internal or family medicine provider and they order one of the following panels: CBC, CMP, TSH, TSH w/ Reflex to FT4, HbA1C, Lipids w/ Reflex to DLDL, Hepatitis C Antibody w/ Reflex to DNA, Vitamin D
Q: Is this AI?
A: No, your lab summary is not generated through AI. A practitioner has reviewed and signed off on all lab summary content.
Q: Why is my lab result experience changing?
A: Your healthcare team is dedicated to delivering exceptional patient care and wants you to stay well-informed about your health. They believe this new feature will help them do this by delivering your lab results quickly along with easy-to-understand summaries of your lab results.
Q: How will this help me understand my lab results better?
A: We understand that lab results can be confusing. There are a lot of medical words and out-of-range values can seem alarming. As you may still see your lab results earlier than your practitioner, this note highlights the most important topics related to your health, so that you get a quick summary. If there is additional information to share, your medical team will follow up with you.
Q: When will I receive my lab results?
A: You will receive your lab results and the accompanying summary after your lab results have been processed. Please note that you may still see your lab results earlier than your practitioner, but rest assured if there’s anything that needs a follow up, your provider will reach out as usual.
Q: Will the introduction of the lab result summary affect my privacy or data security?
A: We take patient privacy and data security seriously. The lab result summary has been designed to comply with all privacy regulations, and stringent measures are in place to ensure the confidentiality and security of your personal health information.
