INDIANAPOLIS (December 3, 2024) – Community Health Network continues its commitment to ‘patient first’ care by now providing computed tomography (CT) scans aided by on-device AI that can offer a quicker, more comfortable experience, with improved image quality1. For health care professionals, innovative technology enables higher-quality imaging, which can result in a faster diagnosis and treatment for challenging health conditions for all patients.
Community Heart and Vascular Hospital and Community Hospital North caregivers were recently trained in using the GE HealthCare Revolution™ Apex platform2. The team is excited about offering this high-tech CT imaging option to patients. “Our team is thrilled to offer state-of the-art Cardiac CT technology providing unparalleled imaging quality and timely diagnoses,” said Cory Mccallie, Director of Imaging. “With this advanced tool we are committed to advancing patient care and advancing cardiovascular health in our community.”
In the past, a CT scan often meant remaining still and holding your breath for what could seem like a long time, all while lying in a narrow bore that could be difficult for those with claustrophobia. That is not the case with Revolution™ Apex platform.
Precise imaging delivered efficiently aims to reduce wait times and provide quicker results. The advanced system has a larger bore that offers more comfort and can provide some relief for those with claustrophobia.
Other advantages of the Revolution™ Apex platform include:
- 1-Beat Cardiac, the ability to scan the whole heart within one heartbeat even if the patient has very challenging cardiac conditions with high heart rate3.
- Comprehensive imaging may help reduce radiation exposure, compared to multiple acquisitions in the past.
- Enhanced bone imaging allows patients with metal implants to benefit from detailed imaging.
- Fast acquisition for acute stroke workup, enabling quicker analysis and treatment.
Revolution™ Apex platform is also built for the future4. It is made to adapt to the next generation of CT innovation, an efficient way to access innovative technology for Community patients. “It is a scanner with technology that is capable of putting us ahead of the curve in assessing cardiac pathology with CT imaging in the future,” said, Dr. Jothiharan Mahenthiran, cardiologist.
The Revolution™ Apex platform is now being offered at Community Heart and Vascular Hospital and Community Hospital North for diagnosis and treatment of many challenging cases for Community providers. More information about medical imaging options is available here.

Image quality comparisons were evaluated by phantom tests of MTF, SSP, axial NPS, standard deviation of image noise, CT Number accuracy, CNR, and artifact analysis. Additionally, LCD was demonstrated in phantom testing using a model observer with the head and body MITA CT IQ Phantoms (CT191, CT189 The Phantom Laboratory). DLIR-H and ASiR-V reconstructions were performed using the same raw data.
