Community Health Network expanding Community Surgery Center South to meet patient need

For release on September 12, 2023

INDIANAPOLIS—Community Health Network is responding to a need in the community by expanding Community Surgery Center South for the first time since 2006.

A groundbreaking ceremony for the project was held Tuesday at the construction site located behind the existing Surgery Center in the former provider parking lot.

“We outgrew our original construction because of our dedicated staff, the faith of our surgeon partners and the needs of our patients,” said Dr. Chadwick Strain, Community Surgery Center South Medical Director. “It is clear we will continue to grow as a campus and network with our recent partnership with MD Anderson Cancer Center. By the end, the outside may look much different, but it will be the same great care inside this new construction footprint.”

The expansion project includes:

  • Adding 2 operating rooms (for a total of 9)
  • Adding 7 patient rooms (for a total of 43)
  • Remodeling processing/cleaning rooms and the front desk area

The project is expected to take 12 to 15 months to complete. Construction will not disrupt patient services. All seven existing operating rooms will be available for use during the construction project.

Last year, the surgery center provided treatment for nearly 12 thousand cases. The expansion project is designed to provide improved, quicker access to surgical care.

After two years of planning, Executive Medical Director of Surgical Services at Community Surgery Center South Britt Cross says she and her team are proud to see the work underway.

“We are excited about the future of South Surgical Services and the opportunity to serve patients in our community,” said Cross. “We take pride in our facility and feel honored to care for each and every person that walks through the door.”
