MyChart Two-Factor Authentication (2FA)

Keeping Your Personal Data Safe

Starting June 8, 2025: Two-factor authentication (2FA) will be REQUIRED to log in to your MyChart account.

Two-factor authentication helps keep your personal information secure and is one more way that Community Health Network protects your health information online. Two-factor authentication means you stay in control of your personal data.

Read on to learn how 2FA safeguards your personal health information and find tips for setting up 2FA for your MyChart account.

What Is Two-Factor Authentication?

2FA helps make sure your accounts are secure by connecting account verification to another device or account that only you can access. You're probably already using 2FA for online banking, ticket purchases, email, shopping, and more. When you log in to an account on your laptop, and you verify who you are with a code on your mobile phone, that's 2FA!

Why Is Two-Factor Authentication Important?

2FA with laptop and phoneTwo-factor authentication provides peace of mind that your personal health information is highly protected online. Turning on two-factor authentication strengthens the security of sensitive accounts by requiring a second verification step in addition to the password. This significantly reduces the risk of unauthorized access, even if a password is compromised.

Two-factor authentication helps keep your information safe from bad actors who might use your personal information in a variety of harmful ways, such as:

  • Change your preferred pharmacy to steal medications.
  • Obtain your date of birth and use it to access other accounts.
  • Share your personal data in public forums.

As an industry best practice, two-factor authentication is just one more way that Community is committed to protecting your data.

Help With 2FA

Below are some troubleshooting steps and tips for setting up 2FA. Please try these suggestions and if you're still having trouble, please call the MyChart customer service team at 317-355-2273.

1. Did Not Receive Code

  1. Text/SMS - Text message is the recommended method to receive the code quickly. Text delivery times may vary. Please allow up to 10 minutes for the code to be delivered.
  2. Email - Please check spam/junk folders for the email with the code. The email will be from Community Health Network and the subject line will indicate it is for MyChart Verification. [Should we include the email address? If yes, what is the email?]
  3. If after 15 minutes the code has not arrived, go back to your MyChart account to the "Verify Your Identity" page and request a new code. Under the Verify button, click the link to "Resend code".

2. Can't Get Back To MyChart Page

  1. If you logged into MyChart on a computer, and verification was sent to your email, try opening the email on a different device, e.g., a mobile phone or tablet.
  2. If the email must be opened on the same computer, please open a new browser tab (Chrome, Safari, Bing, Edge, etc.), taking care not to close the MyChart "Verify Your Identify" page. In the new tab, access your email account and copy or note the code. Then go back to the original tab with the "Verify Your Identify" page to enter the code.

IMPORTANT! Do not close the "Verify Your Identify" page. If the page is closed, you will have to log in to MyChart again, and send a NEW verification code. The previous code will no longer be valid.

3. Skip 2FA Next Time

You can register a personal device so you don't have to complete 2FA every time you log in to MyChart. After you enter the verification code, check the box "Skip this step next time". This will register the device you are logged into. Verification for a device is good for 30 days. After 30 days, you'll need to re-verify the device.

NOTE: Do not skip 2FA on a public device, such as a computer at the library or a group workstation, or any other device/account that can be accessed by someone other than you.

4. Proxy Account Management

Managing someone else's care? If you were managing someone else's care using their login information, you will no longer be able to do that. You will need to have the person that you're caring for share their account with you through the Sharing Hub or you may request proxy access.

  • Share your medical record information with others:
    • Log in to MyChart and go to Your Menu > Sharing Hub.
    • You may choose who to share your MyChart records with, such as family, friends, healthcare providers or others.
  • Request proxy access to someone else's account:
    • Go to Your Menu > Family and Caregiver Access Resources.
    • Common proxy requests include parent/guardian access to minor children's records and legal surrogates for patients who cannot make their own medical decisions.
    • Children age 14+ may also use proxy to provide others with full access to their medical record in MyChart.
