Medicare Coverage Plans - Annual Election Period

Medicare 101: The Annual Election Period

As a leading provider of healthcare services, we often receive questions from our patients about Medicare. As an owner of MyTruAdvantage Medicare Advantage Plan, we created this Medicare 101 series to help provide helpful information about options available to you when it comes to your healthcare coverage.

The Annual Election Period

Once you’re enrolled in Medicare, you can change plans during the Medicare Annual Election Period, or AEP. The Medicare AEP runs each year from October 15 to December 7. This is the time to renew your plan to make sure you have the coverage you need for the following year.

Medicare plans can make changes each year to cost, benefits, coverage, and their network of providers and pharmacies. Your current plan will send you information each September so you can review any changes to your plan.

If you want to keep your plan, you don’t need to do anything. Your plan will automatically renew on January 1 of the following year. If you want to select a different plan, you’ll need to make your change during the AEP (October 15 – December 7). Your new plan coverage will start January 1 of the following year.
